What you can learn in 72 hours?

Global Game Jam 2022 for me resulted in exciting 72 hours where our amazing team came up with the idea, developed, designed, and shipped the game.

No expectations

Here’s the drill- In the Game Jam you have 72hours to develop, code, and present the game to the public.

For my first Jam ever I went all in. Came up to the Jam site without the team, without any ideas, expectations, or prep for the assets.

The blank page was quickly filled with brilliant ideas about DUALITY which was the theme for this year.

Let it flow

Finding a great balance between the tones and textures is not as important as developing a trusting relationship between me as the composer and programmer. A creative and open atmosphere resulted in great synergy between music and game loop in the game.

We made interactive gameplay where an integrated sequencer is being triggered by the player. As the game loop progresses, interloping sounds are being added to the soundtrack and the player not only participates in the game loop but creates a unique soundscape on the board

Deadline is the king

Are 72 hours enough to ship the game? is 48h? what about 24h?

As clichè, as it sounds, coming from the comfort zone, can bring the best out of the one. It may not be the most perfect version possible, but at least we deliverer the gameplay as intended. Restricted resources resulted not in compromised solutions but rather the creative results.

Bombality Bombality is an online rhythmic PvP game, which generates infinite music using the gameboard. To win place walls on the opposing player board and then bomb him. Each player moves on the board according to the beat and places bombs and walls on the opposite player board. However, any action on the opposite board is mirrored on his own board: if a player plants a wall on the opposing board then a bomb appears on his own board at the exact same position, and vice versa. As the boards evolve, the beat intensifies playing sounds according to the wall configuration on the boards, and the game ends when one of the players can escape his opponent's or his own bombs no more. Controls: WASD to move your player. Q to place wall on your side/bomb on the other side E to place a bomb on your side/wall on the other side Have fun and good luck
